New Zealand Tour ’24

New Zealand, also known as the “Paradise Down Under”, offers everything you could possibly look for in a holiday destination: mountains and glaciers, wild coasts and long sandy beaches, a rainforest and hot springs. It is home to an interesting indigenous culture and to the friendliest people you can imagine. New Zealand is heaven for motorcyclists, because the roads are beautiful, well-maintained, and mostly empty.

Day 1: Welcome to Christchurch

Embarking on the Kiwi Adventure: A 12-Day Motorcycle Journey Across New Zealand

Welcome to the land of the long white cloud, where every twist of the road reveals a breathtaking vista, and every corner turned promises a new adventure. Our motorcycle journey through New Zealand is not just a road trip; it’s a symphony of landscapes, cultures, and experiences that will linger in our memories for a lifetime.

As we touch down in Christchurch, the gateway to the South Island, anticipation and excitement fill the air. The roar of our engines will soon echo against the backdrop of New Zealand’s most stunning landscapes. Our journey will begin with a thrilling ride straight to the High Country, where, weather permitting, the awe-inspiring view across Lake Pukaki to Mount Cook awaits us. It’s a scene that defines the essence of New Zealand – raw, majestic, and utterly unforgettable.

The road to Milford Sound beckons, a place of unparalleled beauty that stands as a testament to nature’s grandeur. The ride along Milford Road is not just a means of transportation; it’s a highlight in itself, a winding ribbon of asphalt carving through some of the world’s most mesmerizing scenery.

In Queenstown, the adrenaline capital of the world, we can trade our leathers for adventure gear. Bungee jumping, white water rafting, skydiving – the possibilities are as boundless as the landscape. Or perhaps, a day of relaxation, indulging in the charm of Queenstown, soaking in its unique atmosphere, and savoring the delights at Ferg’s – a choice that might just redefine your idea of a perfect day.

Leaving the dry Southern Lakes behind, our journey will take an unexpected turn into the lush rainforests and the untamed beauty of the Wild West Coast. Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, like frozen rivers from the heavens, cascade into the emerald rainforest below. A helicopter ride, weather permitting, allows us to touch the glacier’s summit, a moment frozen in time.

As we traverse the dramatic landscapes of the West Coast, from Pancake Rocks to Buller Gorge, the throttle hand dances in tandem with the rhythm of the road. The Motueka region welcomes us with orchards and vineyards, a tantalizing prelude to our night’s rest in the sunny city of Nelson.

The adventure continues as we board the ferry to the North Island, where Wellington, the vibrant capital, beckons with world-class attractions and a cosmopolitan charm. Take a breather; it’s our second rest day – perfect for souvenir hunting and exploring the renowned Te Papa Museum.

Northward we go, following Highway 52 through authentic sheep country, where sheepdogs work their magic in a genuine display of rural life. Napier, the Art Deco city, is our next stop, a testament to architectural resilience and creativity.

Lake Taupo, a colossal caldera, welcomes us next, leading to Rotorua, the heartland of the Maori. Here, volcanic activity is not just geological; it’s a cultural force, culminating in a traditional Maori Hangi dinner – a feast for the senses.

Our epic journey concludes in Auckland, the bustling economic center of New Zealand. Here, the warmth of the people matches the pleasant weather, providing the perfect setting for a grand finale. For those embarking on the North Island Extension, the promise of another week of riding bliss awaits.

Buckle up, fellow adventurers, as we rev our engines to explore the enchanting landscapes, experience the diverse cultures, and create lasting memories on the open roads of New Zealand. The Kiwi adventure will start soon !

Day 2: Christchurch – Twizel

**Embarking on Kiwi Roads: A Rain-Kissed Beginning**

Our Kiwi adventure kicks off as we leave Christchurch behind, a city steeped in history and charm. Despite the good weather in the preceding days, a touch of east wind brings with it a sprinkle of rain and cooler temperatures to welcome us on our journey. But, true to the spirit of exploration, a little rain can’t dampen our enthusiasm.

Our motorcycles carve through the rain-kissed roads as we begin our ascent to Summit Road. This panoramic route gracefully traces the rim of an ancient volcanic crater, now known as Banks Peninsula. The promise of fantastic views down to the city and the coast accompanies us, although the weather has its own plans, obscuring the panorama with a veil of mist. Nevertheless, the charm of Summit Road persists, and our spirits remain undampened.

As we ride through the green and fertile Canterbury plains, the persistent grey sky begins to give way. The sun, determined to make an appearance, pierces through the clouds, casting a warm glow along the Alps. Our journey leads us via Burks Pass, a route that climbs steadily into the MacKenzie High Country.

The real magic unveils itself as we reach the high country. The turquoise-colored waters of Lake Pukaki and Lake Tekapo, framed by snow-covered mountains, paint a picture-perfect scene. The unique blend of colors, nature’s palette at its finest, creates a mesmerizing backdrop for our Kiwi odyssey.

Our next stop is the “Church of the Good Shepherd,” and the breathtaking views of Lake Tekapo. The sun has finally prevailed now, and it’s a wonderful ride through the fresh and warm air. The beauty of New Zealand’s landscapes, even in the aftermath of rain, is a testament to its enchanting allure.

Before reaching Twizel, we pause at New Zealand’s number one lookout. The view across the turquoise waters of Lake Pukaki towards Mt. Cook is nothing short of awe-inspiring. It’s a moment to catch our breath and soak in the grandeur of the surroundings.

As we roll into Twizel, the first day of our Kiwi trip concludes with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation. The rain may have graced us, but it only adds to the richness of our journey. Tomorrow awaits with new vistas, winding roads, and the promise of more adventures in the heart of New Zealand.
